Though supporters of the Indian Child Welfare Act say it has safeguards to prevent misuse, Veronica and numerous other multi-racial children across the U.S have been hurt by it. Children who have never been near a reservation nor involved in tribal customs are affected. The Cherokee Nation alone is currently tied up in about 1,100 active Indian Child Welfare cases involving some 1,500 children.

I hate air pollution. When I travel in Manila, I have to use an asthma inhaler to stop an attack. Here in the provinces, I only have to use an inhaler in spring, when they burn off the weeds in the fields. However, science reporting on “green” issues often is so inaccurate that a lot […]

I am bemused to see that there is a moderate earthquake in Oklahoma making the news. Such things are not unknown, of course, but the “Green” oriented blogs are all blaming the earthquake on “fracking”. This is a “hot” item, since the oil shales of North Dakota and Pennsylvania are potential “black gold” that will […]

Principals didn’t stop school bullies and now there are more school bullying-caused suicides. In all of the cases I’ll describe, there were differences in the bullies’ methods of harassing and abusing their targets. But what was the same was that the parents complained and the responsible school teachers and principals didn’t protect the children in […]

With all the hyperbolic political rhetoric in the blogosphere, one wonders if the American people are indeed “having a temper tantrum”. Or maybe the patience of the American people with political correctness is now finished. Example one: After years of the American public watching news reports of suicide bombings, or lashing raped women, destroying Hindu […]

With all the overspending by the Obama administration, on top of an economic downturn, I have figured all along that the next step would be inflation. You see, if the government “owes” one billion, and inflation goes up, then voila, in a few years the “one billion” they owe is now only half a billion […]

Oklahoma has overrode two bills vetoed by the senator today. This override puts the bills into effect immediately. The first bill will require all women interested in getting an abortion to receive an ultrasound, and hear a detailed description of what it shows. I can understand getting an ultrasound for that sort of procedure. That […]

Bill Clinton attempted to connect the small and peaceful demonstrations of upper middle class Americans with the Oklahoma City bombings in a recent New York Times Editorial. …we should never forget what drove the bombers …They took to the ultimate extreme an idea advocated in the months and years before the bombing by an increasingly […]

Ah, a British paper just pooh poohed the British victory at the Battle of Agincourt, saying that Prince Hal was not outnumbered 4 to 1, merely outnumbered 2 to 1. Actually, the author misses the point, which is that the elite knights of France got slowed down by the mud and were massacred by ordinary […]

If you are wondering about Puffball Palin’s comments about the so called “death” panels, you should be aware that there have been calculations proposed by many “bioethicists” to limit care according to one’s quality of life. Here is how the UK does it: The basic idea of a QALY is straightforward. It takes one year […]

All Indian Nations have a story of the conquest. For many Western Tribes, like the Apache and the Sioux, the story includes tenacious resistance to European advances and a bitter defeat. For some Eastern tribes, like those historically known, controversially, as the Five Civilized Tribes – the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole – […]

There are a lot of newspaper articles about the squabbling in the Republican party, with a feud going on between Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh making headlines.
