That was pretty much the question I had yesterday for our radio panel.
On air were Simon and Jan Barrett, author and crime writer Denny Griffin, Statement Analysis guru Peter Hyatt, journalist Dave Knechel, and Bondsman William Cobra Staubs.
The week started with what I thought was a rather strange statement By father George Anthony’s attorney affirming that neither the defense nor prosecution thought that he was in anyway involved with the death of Caylee Anthony. I am in agreement, other than a small cadre of conspiracy theorists no-one seems to think George Anthony was involved in the actual event. It is however possible and maybe even probable That he at the very least has knowledge that he has not shared with Law Enforcement. The fact that neither the defense nor prosecution appear to be showing any interest in him speaks volumes. A trial is much like a business, you have assets and liabilities. Calling George Anthony to the stand is a risk, a game of chicken. While he potentially represents an asset to either side, he also could become a huge liability under cross examination.
On Thursday of last week there was a very strange and quick court hearing. I for one thought that I had been transported back to San Fran for the summer of ’67. There was a veritable love fest going on between Cheney Mason and prosecutor Jeff Ashton. I was half expecting them to hold hands and skip out of court together singing ‘we are off to see the wizard’!
Friday’s resumption of the Frye hearing was a very different event. Jose Baez was back in the saddle, and just bound and determined to push Jeff Ashton’s buttons. Baez may not have the long illustrious background of being a trial lawyer, but he certainly knows how to rile Jeff Ashton. Unfortunately he has yet to learn the art of hit and run. Consequently the pair of them received a good beating from Judge Perry.
Needless to say, the panel had a great deal to say on all of the happenings from last week.
If you missed the live broadcast you can listen to the recording here.
The first degree murder trial of Casey Anthony for the death of her daughter Caylee Anthony is set to start next month, and Judge Perry seems bound and determined that this milestone will not be missed.
The next few weeks are going to be busy!

Jury selection in the Casey Anthony Case is scheduled for May 9 (city will be disclosed by Judge Perry a few days prior) and the trial is scheduled to start on May 16, 2011 in Orlando, Orange County, FL.
I find it interested that George and Cindy Anthony are not going to be truthful witnesses in this case. Cindy not recalling that she put dryer sheets in the back of Casey’s car.Yet now she has claimed, she not only put the dryer sheets in the car but, sprayed a whole bottle of Fabreeze in the trunk as well..Starting a new Anti depressant medication would not change her memory at the time nor, would her memory become better within time.I think she is only lying to help Casey now and try and convince us otherwise.I really don’t see why they allow Cindy and George to sit in the courtroom taking notes, then they can just change their testimony at will.I really hope George has seen the light finally, after all of Casey’s lies and decides to be truthful in all his testimony.I think George knows what a lying deceitful, cold hearted, monster Casey truly is by now.I think Cindy was afraid of getting in trouble for tampering with evidence at the time, which she clearly did. Most people who know what a dead body smells like wouldn’t try to get rid of the odor but, call police immediately. Most people wouldn’t start by removing and washing pants and trying to get rid of any evidence but, try and find out who was the dead body that was in it.Cindy knew Casey was alive but,not Caylee. They are now just trying to explain the reason for the high levels of Chloraform in the car.Cindy is so transparent what a liar she is.
Cindy has been writing her script of notations since the 31 days started.
Former cop George smelled that car before he took it out of the towyard. How come he didn’t call 911? He only casually mentioned his daughter and grandaughter were missing just prior to opening up that car to try and start it-and the guy ‘who knows a lot about a lot of things’ George just happened to bring gas cans with him. How the heck did he know the car tank was empty? Why didn’t he bring a battery or battery cables? How did he even know the car was in any shape to drive prior to getting to the towyard the first time? He couldn’t get in without paying the fee. What gives Georgie?
BTW. Is KioMarie Cruz, Casey’s neighbor related to River Cruz?
Casey looked up chloroform and neck breaking way before Cindy chooked her out. It was Cindys computer and she gave LE permission to take it and pull the information.
I think the whole lot of them on the duh fense side have been too busy ironing all their four leaf clovers, they are all pressing their luck on this.
Who’s to really say who was looking up what on any computer. Same goes for those cell phones. Who really knows who had what phone on any given day. This family are masters of flimflam.
George himself lied when he provided the last “independent” sighting of Caylee leaving with her mother the morning following the infamous fight.
Grandpa put himself right in the middle of the conspiracy to cover up the murder of the granddaughter he so dearly love. Caylee may forgive “Jo-Jo” for that; many of us never will. The guilt will never leave him and I foresee his early demise from that burden. JMHO
Let’s also remember there was not one trace of any fingerprints on the car, not on the steering wheel, on the trunk, nothing. Good job George and Cindy.
They all have told mistruths, but the worst is all this waiting around for those 31 days. Did either George or Cindy REALLY think Casey was capable enough to get a high paying job with her education? Did she ever come back to get all of her and Caylee’s clothing? Cindy would never let go that fast. I highly doubt Casey was around the Hopespring addy the day Caylee died.
