The mere mention of the name Casey Anthony makes me shudder. It is a story that just will not go away. Last week saw yet more developments in the case that most people could not care less about. Charged with the senseless murder of her daughter Caylee, she was found not guilty. It was to many people a travesty of justice, somewhat akin to the OJ Simpson criminal trial. Sometimes the legal system is imperfect, but it is the system that we have, and is preferable to what happens in other parts of the world.
The latest developments in the twisted saga of Casey Anthony make my eyes roll. She has filed for bankruptcy citing debts of over $700,000 and assets of $1000. A cool $500,000 being legal fees owed to her defense team (Jose Baez). What is wrong with this picture? Lets face it, it does cost a lot of money to mount a large legal defense. I could be wrong here, but if memory serves me correctly, Baez was working ‘Pro Bono’, and with Casey being declared indigent, the tax payers effectively paid for her defense. To me, there is something wrong with this picture.
The other development is the overturning of two of the four guilty verdicts about her telling lies to the police. She was found guilty, and the penalty was discharged by time served. So why bother going through an appeals process? At first glance, it seems a pointless exercise in futility. However one has to wonder if there is some method in the madness? Could changing the past in someway change the future? I think the answer to that question is yes. It is possible that the negation of the two guilty verdicts might play a role in the civil suits that are looming on the horizon.
To answer these questions I have asked two experts to join me in a radio program. Peter Haven is a well known and well respected attorney. He is well versed in high profile shenanigans, he represented the Goldman family in their quest to claim settlement from OJ Simpson for the civil suit.
My second guest is journalist Dave Knechel. He has followed the Casey Anthony case from day one and has talked to most of the major players.
I can’t wait to hear what they have to say about these new developments. To listen live to the program please use this link. We will be on air at 10am pacific, noon central, and 1pm eastern.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI thought Baez was probono also. We the taxpayers had to pay for her defense to my recollection. She still has two convictions of lying to police so she did not entirely clean her slate.
I thought she would file for bankruptcy. It was talked about when she was found not guilty. Still dont agree with the verdict! jmo
Cant wait to listen to the show.
I thought ALL her attys. were working pro bono.
As far as I’m concerned this is just another scheme by her smarmy lawyers & enablers to help her avoid being held responsible for the financial nightmare she created for herself.
The sooner this sociopathic baby killer is left to her own devices without her babysitters to save her from herself, the better!
They were not working pro bono in the beginning. She also owes money to the attorneys that were involved way back before Baez and group took over.
they filed teh appeals directly because it will affect the civil trials.
Thanks Kevin for explaining that. Hope none of them are holding their breath for the $$.
