MFWA and NAFIO launched campaign on the Gambia 
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and the Network of African Freedom of Expression Organizations (NAFEO) on May 21, 2007 in Accra launched a campaign advocating for the end of President Yahya Jammeh’s government impunity against journalists and the media.  The campaign which plans to target African leaders, International Organizations, the European community and the United States Congress would use both electronic and printed materials approach to mobilize more people to put pressure on the Gambian government.  As part of the campaign, a dossier of press freedom violations by the government entitled The Gambia, Violations of Press Freedom by the Government of President Yahya Jammeh 1996-2006 and a poster of detained journalist, Chief Ebrima Manneh were launched
The 63-page book catalogued a number of killings, arrests, detentions and repressive media laws. It also touched on media houses that have closed been closed down and journalists forced into exiled.
Launching the campaign the Executive Director of MFWA, Kwame Karikari says the campaign   was to expose Human Rights violations in The Gambia, particularly freedom of expressions and media rights which often are unknown to international opinion.
He called on African leaders especially, the African Union Chairman John Agyekum Kufuor to put pressure on President Jammeh to free Chief Manneh. Come July 11, 2007, it would a year since Chief Manneh was arrested by the notorious National Intelligence Agency (NIA).He has being held incommunicado without   charge.
