…Cash, Computers and Bank documents ravaged by the blaze

The Arab Gambia Islamic Bank at West Field was today set ablaze, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The early morning fire attracted lot of speculations from customers and by standers alike. The Arab Gambia Islamic Bank right in the heart of West Field at Serrekunda was a scene of a drama among workers of the Bank, customers, fire fighters and spectators when the green Bank was seen ablaze in a thick smoke from the reception areas and cashier sections of the Bank.

According to sources, the Bank surprisingly caught fire in the morning leaving customers on their heels with workers finding where to go. The situation became confusing but was later put under control when the Serrekunda Fire service sent in their tank to stop the fire, which was only starting to get hold of the building. The cashiers section were set ablaze leaving a lot of valuable documents burnt to ashes. Those that remained were soaked into water not fit for use till proper care is taken.

The fire was blamed on the electricity that was said to have sparked off from one of the sections but no body seems to know from which end. The cables could be smelled after the incident as every burnt item was taken outside and customers asked to use the other door at the back. The smell was awful due to the burnt cable.

Many observers believe that a foul play may have taken place because if documents are burnt with computers, no body could account for anything properly. But such is not the case with some of the workers who blatantly said it was an accident, and everybody takes it for that because accidents can happen.

Bank officials were briefly interviewed by the police. They denied having knowledge about the cause of the fire.
