Baldness, a trait which involves loss of hair in men, is usually triggered by lack of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone. Baldness can now be effectively treated by a new technique developed by a UK biotechnology firm. This firm is in the process of developing a robot that could grow hair follicle cells. The new treatment involves, removal of hair follicle (a part of skin that grows hair by stuffing the old cells together) from the neck, which is then cultured and then reimplanted.

The government has granted £1.85m to this company for developing the new treatment to baldness. The initial testing of the treatment showed that five out of seven men tested grew hair. The results of the initial tests are encouraging and this technology could serve as an effective solution to baldness. If the clinical trials are successful, then baldness may no longer be a worry, in future.
