John Donovan has been involved in the gasoline retailing industry for over 40 years devising promotional campaigns for many oil companies, including Conoco and Texaco. He has also acted as a marketing consultant to BP. Donovan is however best known for his long association with the Royal Dutch Shell Group where he devised promotions on an international basis, including the legendary Shell Make Money game which set the gasoline retailing market alight in 1984. The spectacularly successful promotion run in the UK, Ireland and Singapore. Since 1994, John has been involved in bouts of litigation with Shell, the last in 2005, when Shell International Limited unsuccessfully attempted to seize the Internet domain name royaldutchshellplc.com. Donovan campaigns for Shell senior management to abide by Shell's advertised core business principles of openness, integrity, honesty and respect for people in all of its dealings. He is a long term Shell shareholder.
