A woman from Australia who allegedly stalking American Idol 3 runner up Diana DeGarmo pleaded guilty today to blackmail and stalking. According to reports, 20-year-old Tanya Maree Quattrocchi tried to extort the 19-year-old singer, telling DeGarmo she’d leave her alone for $15,000 to $25,000.Â
 Â
DeGarmo told The Age, a newspaper in Australia, that Quattrocchi’s actions were “sadistic cruelty†and that she had begged the woman to stop “trying to ruin my life.†DeGarmo said Quattrocchi “terrorized her†for five months earlier this year by calling her cell phone 369 times and sent her 570 text messages, which DeGarmo is quoted as calling a “text message war.â€Â
 Â
DeGarmo first met Quattrocchi when she accepted her as a friend on myspace.com, thinking she was a teenager from Minnesota. Quattrocchi then was able to get DeGarmo’s personal information and posed as the singer, getting two unreleased songs from DeGarmo’s producer and threatening to release them if DeGarmo didn’t meet her online. DeGarmo says she and her friends begged Quattrocchi to stop.Â
 Â
“No matter how many times I changed my passwords or tried to keep my information safe, she would always break back in,†DeGarmo told The Age.
 Â
In May, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents recorded a conversation between DeGarmo and Quattrocchi, and Quattrocchi was arrested in June.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWow.. I never had any idea what Diana was going through. It’s like people think they can just do anything they want to do with someone else’s life.
I thought the punishment they gave her was WAY too little. A year in 6 months in jail would have been more like it.
Ok, that should say “6 months”.. But a year is ok too, LOL. 150 hours of community service can be completed in 3 weeks to a month.
150 hours is just not enough!
Her sentence was absurd. Tanya just proved that crime pays. Stolen credit cards, stolent phones, photographs, music, stalking — for 150 hours? She spent more time commiting the crime. Why didn’t the judge give her an award? I guess the Australians can hire her now since she’s so good at breaking the law and doing what she does. Someone with a marijuana joint would have gotten more time than she did! This judge doesn’t deserve to be a judge — because she obviously can’t tell a criminal when she see one! Tanya is thumbing her nose at the court right now. Even after pleading guilty, she went right back to doing what she was doing; so why would the Court think that she would listen to them now? Totally insane on the part of Australia!
