Another asbestos lawsuit has been filed in Madison County by the estate of a man who contracted the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma, and died some years ago. Bernard Lichtenstien was diagnosed with the cancer in 1998, and he died in 199. The lawsuit seeks one hundred thousand dollars plus costs.
According to reports the man worked in various locations as a labourer between 1957 and 1978. The company that has been named as the defendant is Federal-Mogul Asbestos Personal Injury Trust, as successor to Felt Products Manufacturing and also successor to Vellumoid Division of Federal-Mogul.
The lawsuit claims that the firms should have known, or did know, that the asbestos in their products was toxic and potentially deadly, but did not provide information of precautions for those working with and around asbestos.
The lawsuit also claims that the firms used asbestos in their products even in cases where there was a safer, suitable alternative available, thus further increasing the risk to workers. The suit goes on to state that Mr Lichtenstien suffered great physical and mental anguish as a result of contracting the disease.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAsbestos is a dangerous product which, amazingly, is still not banned in the United States, though it is in 40 other countries. The U. S. House of Representatives is considering a bill to ban asbestos and provide funding for research into effective treatments for asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, the cancer of the lungs, abdomen and heart. Please write your representative asking him/her to support the bill. You can do this from http://www.banasbestos.us
