PRNewswire are running a press release about the London based Antique Wine Company. Yesterday an as yet unnamed European wine collector bought 135 bottles of the very famous French desert wine Chateau d’Yquem.

While 135 bottles might seem like a good supply of plonk for the holiday season, the truly amazing part was the price, $1.5 million!

By my high school math that works out at about $11,000 a bottle, or almost $2,000 a glass.

This is reputed to be the largest single collection of Chateau d’Yquem in the world, it contains every consecutive vintage from 1860 through 2003.

The sale attracted buyers from as far as Japan and Hong Kong.
