Reese Witherspoon filed divorce Wednesday from husband Ryan Philippe nine days after they publicly admitted their separation.

In the court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Witherspoon is seeking custody of their two children, to have the sole ownership of the family home and that Philippe be denied spousal support. Witherspoon though granted Philippe visitation rights for their children.

Reese Witherspoon won the Oscars for Best Actress this year for her portrayal of Johnny Cash’s country-singing sweetheart June Carter in the movie “Walk the Line.” She carved a name for herself by appearing in such Hollywood blockbuster movies as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Legally Blonde”.

Philippe’s spokesman could not be immediately reached for comments. He is currently starring in a World War Two film “Flags of Our Fathers”.

Witherspoon and Phillippe developed real and reel romance when they filmed the 1999 movie “Cruel Intentions”. They married in June of the same year and have two children, 7-year-old daughter Ava and 3-year-old son Deacon.

“We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate,” publicists for Witherspoon and Phillippe said in a joint statement last week. “They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time,” the statement added.
