I find it strange how I manage to get involved in stuff. But I am really good at it! I don’t go looking for stuff, somehow it just arrives at my door. Because of knowing author Sam Moffie (bad influence) I started talking to one of the sources he used in To Kill The Duke.

I am the first to admit that I like to chat with new and interesting people. Jack Young fits the requirement to a tee!

Jack Young is one of the most interesting guys I know. How many 87 year young, ex Hollywood Stuntmen have you chatted with recently? Today he was talking about the fact that it was his brothers birthday, his brother is 99! It is clear that the Young family live long and happy lives.

Jack has broken almost as many bones as Evel Knievel. Jack mainly specialized in falling off horses and roof tops. Needless to say, this is not something that you should try at home!

After he had finished falling off horses and roofs he moved into the production side of movies and TV. For a number of years he was the ‘go to’ guy for Old Tucson Studios. Jack has the best stories, I’ll bet you didn’t know that Jack was a Navy Frogman in WWII. Jack kept his suit, but don’t tell the Feds. With budget cuts and general idiocy, they may want his FrogMan suit back. Alas, it has seen better days. Jack was quick to figure out that wearing it under his Western garb was a great way to prevent some of the minor bangs and scratches.

Jack comes from an age when stuntmen actually did stunts!

There will be an official video, all I have right now are two Youtube adventures. Bring together 50 Western stuntmen from 50 years… you have a pile of trouble!

I would have loved to have been there. Jack is one of the nicest people I have ever talked to. After the official ‘shoot out’ was done, there was a more private program. I am sure that the 3,000 plus guests saw it.

It makes me proud to be able to say that I know Blackjack Young. I have told him to write a book, I get the answer, my son Cody can do that!. Cody get on it!

Cody is the youngster on the right!  On the left is Bob Shelton, Bob deserves his own article, so I will shut up, but Bob, I am coming hunting for you hahaha.

I think I will end this story with a couple of pictures.

And I rather like this one.

That is Bill Reed on the right.

I really wish that I could have been at the event. Five decades of stuntmen in one place, what a once in a lifetime chance! I am sure that had I been there Jack would have found a way for me to fall off a roof. I am just a youngster, 57 years old, but I am pretty certain that falling off roofs is not really my thing.

Blackjack Young, I salute you! I am proud to know you.
