The families of three men who died from asbestos related diseases have been awarded a combined total of $4.3 million by a jury in California. The lawsuit for wrongful death had named the defendant as Plant Insulation Company, which supplied various pipe insulation products containing the deadly carcinogenic, asbestos.

The three men worked as industrial pipe fitters and plumbers, and therefore worked regularly with the products manufactured by Plant Insulation Company. The trial lasted for a month, and once the case had been heard the jury deliberated for a further two days to reach its decision.

The jury announced that it found the defendant to be partially responsible for each of the deaths, and therefore awarded the compensation of over four million dollars to the families of the three men. The compensation was split between the families based on the level of responsibility for the death based on the jury’s decision.

Asbestos is a known carcinogenic. Exposure to asbestos can cause a range of serious health problems including a deadly form of cancer known as mesothelioma.
