Anti-Defamation League comes out against comic Borat

According to this story, the Anti-Defamation League has raised some issues with the upcoming Borat movie. They claim the main character's over-the-top anti-Semitism, intended for comedic effect, could for some confirm stereotypes.

It's not difficult to understand the concern -- Borat asks his viewers to laugh at racist jokes under the guise that it's really racism, not minorities, they're laughing it. Low-IQ types, more susceptible to racist ideologies, may not be capable of this level of abstraction.

The act is quite amusing, though, and it would be a shame to deny responsible viewers the opportunity just because some will misinterpret the jokes.

The actor who plays Borat is Jewish. I blogged about the comic here as well.
