Will You Apply For Trusted Traveler Status With Big Brother?

In the post-freedom, your papers please sir/madam America we live in today (remember, they hate us for our freedom! Soon they will love us... and you, too, will love Big Brother), you can apply for a pass to the head of the line, where, although you'll still have to suffer the indignities associated with airline travel today (and they wonder why they're bankrupting and reorganizing right and left), at least you'll be the first to do do, making it through security faster than those less trustworthy or less willing/able to pay souls relegated to the back of the line.

According to USA Today, "the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has finally granted permission for several airports to launch the long awaited Registered Traveler program."

Consumer Affairs reports that:

"Registered Traveler, operating as a pilot program in Orlando for more than a year, has nearly two dozen airports anxious to add the system. Many of them hope to do so before year's end.

Companies operating the program, such as the New York-based Verified Identity Pass, will issue ID cards bearing fingerprints of members. New technology, now in the testing stages, will determine whether passengers can pass through security without doffing coats and shoes -- which will also speed up the process.

Another possible breakthrough is an on-site fingerprint sample, designed to detect explosives residue on the hands of passengers."

Somewhere, in the deep recesses of my mind, I can see George Orwell dancing a sad jig on the founding fathers' graves... have we really passed into such an era... finger printing, physical searches, etc. and so on for travel?
