When I am old I shall wear Purple...innuendo for now

T-shirts are very much a fashion statement among the "hip" crowd. My personal circle of thirty-somethings typically have some Simpsons paraphernalia that represents which character best represents our life philosophy...or not. For example, one of the nicest, gentlest, kindest members of our group habitually wears a Mr. Burns shirt showing him in classic Mr. Burns evil pose twiddling his fingers after some heinous deed. We wear them because they make a statement we ourselves understand that probably few people outside our generation understand. That wasn't always what...or why...we wore stuff.
I seriously doubt today's generation is all that different. There is more to what they wear than just "rebeliion" as one interviewee called it. The habit of wearing shirts with double entendre is unquestionably part of the culture of being a teen ager in todays' society.
At Eleanor Roosevelt, students caught with over-the-line shirts sometimes must wear school shirts that mark them as "dress code violators."

Here is a prophecy for you; some day the kids at Eleanor Roosevelt will some day turn the "dress code violator" shirts into a mark of pride. People will wear more and more outrageous shirts in a deliberate attempt to be "punished" with one of those shirts. It will be a mark of the people who are "on the edge" and flouting the system. This is one there is no easy win for the parents until the youth reach maturity...or the next fad comes along.
