Ventura County California under State of Emergency

The massive fire burning 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles is not slowing down. It has burned over 226 square miles of the Los Padres National Forest. It has also claimed several homes, outbuildings and accrued an expensive tab of over $45 million dollars. The worst part is that the fire is only 45% contained. Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for Ventura County. Evacuations are also underway in some remote areas.

My hometown. :(

Piru, Fillmore, and Ojai catch fire every single year. However, I was never able to actually see these fires from Oxnard and Ventura until last weekend. Truly scary.

I know it's a bummer :( I lived in Southern California for years and watched portions of it burn up every year. A few times it got close to us and your assessment is correct...it's scary!
