US General Says Troops In Iraq May Increase

In a very depressing estimate from heads of the US military, Gen. John Abizaid, commander of the U.S. Central Command has said that by next spring the US may increase its military presence in Iraq by next spring. The US currently has 140,000 troops stationed in Iraq. Both military leaders and the current administration have been voicing very hopeful comments as of late with the message of wanting to bring troops home but today Gen. Abizaid has basically destroyed those hopes. "If it's necessary to do that (commenting on longer deployments) because the military situation on the ground requires that, we'll do it. If we have to call in more forces because it's our military judgment that we need more forces, we'll do it."
