UNICEF: 2.6 Billion Children Lack Sanitation

According to a new study conducted by UNICEF, an estimated 2.6 billion children under 18 in the world do not have access to basic sanitation conditions. Most of these children are located in Africa and Asia. While strong progress has been made in bringing children clean water to drink, lack of basic sanitation and clean toilets can lead to diarrhea and other diseases fatal to children. The place where this lack is noticed most clearly would be in the sub Saharan area of Africa. This region of the planet contains 11% of the Earth’s population and yet it also contains 1/3 the people who do not have access to water or basic sanitary. The lack of sanitation is not limited to Africa and Asia though as other developed countries also was reported on the list including countries in North Africa and the Middle East.
