Trouble In Thailand, Tanks In Bangkok The English language version of ThaisNews.com states that "Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has ordered all the ministers not to travel out of Thailand for now, except for necessary issues. He said the country is currently facing an unusual situation." "Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok amid reports of a coup attempt. Soldiers have entered Government House and tanks have moved into position around the building. Mr Thaksin, who is at the UN in New York, announced he had removed the chief of the army and had ordered troops not to "move illegally"," as reported by the BBC. Thailand has suffered greatly, politically and socially, for decades. From brutal oppression to human trafficking to being a destination for child sex tourists to grinding poverty, the people of this small nation have endured many hardships.
