Trouble for Tigers

Despite prevention efforts, the population of India's tigers is still severely threatened.

The tiger is protected under the UN convention on international trade in endangered species - to which both India and China are signatories.

Wildlife activists say if immediate action is not taken to save the tiger, it could soon become extinct in India.

According to BBC News, investigators who visited Tibet and China in July and August found the situation is now worse than last year, the groups said. They screened a video of the investigation - shot at major festivals in Tibet - at a press conference in Delhi. The video showed images of Tibetan officials, tourists and even festival organisers wearing clothes made out of the tiger skin.
To me this is fascinating. Have you ever really watched a tiger? They are full of beauty and grace and I for one cannot imagine killing one. I suppose the sentiment is not shared with our asian brothers and sisters as they continually kill tigers for their beautiful coats.

One picture featured in the BBC article featured a tent, made out of 108 tigers. That sort of production is wiping out the tiger population so rapidly, that studies predict that there will be no tigers left in the wild within the next 10 years.
