Toshiba recalls Sony batteries There was no word from Toshiba on how many users had reported problems with the batteries. This is still bad news for Sony, whose battery production has caused problems for Dell, HP, and Apple. Sony is struggling against giants like Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung for market share in the consumer-electronics industry, where profit-margins are often razor-thin. Lithium, an alkali metal that is a primary component of many rechargeable batteries, is caustic and burns easily. As shown here, the flames from a burning battery can be sudden and intense.
