Throw switch, cause disaster The two explosions fired manhole covers into the air. Firefighters say no one was seriously injured, which is a miracle since video tape showed flames shooting up thirty feet and scorching the street. Efforts to control the fire were complicated by a maze of tunnels under the city streets. Much of the infrastructure is old, with a complex and dangerous mix of old and new materials. The explosion, which occurred around 1:30 PM, was apparently due to customer error. 6abc coverage here.
