Third Mistrial For John A. Gotti Jr. He has some interesting goals for the new life he hopes to start. According to the NY Daily News story, he wants to move out of the big city, to some quiet midwestern local, go to college to study child psychology and then write a book. I can just imagine a hapless parent taking their troubled and delinquent child to be counseled by the reformed Gotti. Or him moving right up the NYT best seller list and becoming a nationally known expert on children. Only in America... Needless to say, Curtis Sliwa was less than thrilled with the outcome, as reported by the New York Times. "Outside the court he told reporters, Mr. Sliwa said: “Absolutely unbelievable that he escapes justice and gets to walk out of court. So it actually would have been better if I were dead -- believe it or not — because then he would have been held culpable. There’d have been no statute of limitation. He couldn’t escape this. The only saving grace is there were 12 people who heard the evidence and said yes he did plan the kidnap of Curtis Sliwa and he did intend the assault against me that on two separate occasions nearly took my life.” According to the NYT article, "The most serious racketeering charge against Mr. Gotti was that he had ordered the 1992 abduction and beating of Curtis Sliwa, a radio talk show host and founder of the Guardian Angels. Witnesses testified that Mr. Gotti had been angered over comments made by Mr. Sliwa on his WABC radio program about the Gotti family, including calling his father a “drug dealer.” The attack ended after Mr. Sliwa was shot several times and leaped out the window of a speeding cab driven by two Gambino crime family enforcers. One of the men, Joseph D’Angelo, known as Little Joey, testified against Mr. Gotti in the trial. Mr. Sliwa, 52, who had been called by prosecutors as a star witness during the first two trials, was passed over by the government for the third trial, but subpoenaed by Mr. Gotti’s attorneys."
