Being a Texan and resident of Austin, you run into famous people occasionally. Willie Nelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Leslie the cross-dressing homeless guy. To just name a few.

I met Ms Richards in 1994; right after GW defeated her in the Texas Gubernatorial election that year.

She had arranged for a photographer at what was Studio 2 (Lavaca & 16^th) to take a family portrait of her and her older kids. I was renting office space there at the time, and assisted Scott on the shoot. They were using my blue canvas backdrop anyway.

I remember her joking about the election, saying she was “Bushwhacked”… with emphasis on the Bush part. She told me she was OK being beat by a shrub. She kept us laughing all during the half-hour shoot. I tended to repeat the jokes at home for the next month. The resulting photo was on display in the studio’s entry hall.

I’ll miss her.
