Taller Women More Likely To Have Twins

In a study conducted by Gary Steinman, an obstetrician at New York's Long Island Jewish Medical Center, new results are showing that taller women have higher odds of delivering multiple babies at once. In a study of 129 women who gave birth to twins or triplet compared to the national average height of women, the study found that the women who gave birth to multiple babies were at least one inch taller than the national average. In the study, it is suspected that the reason for this is that an insulin-like growth factor released from the liver in response to growth hormone. It increases the sensitivity of the ovaries to follicle stimulating hormone, thereby increasing ovulation.
