Syria to U.S.: Attack is Your Own Fault!

by Whymrhymer

Yesterday when four armed Syrian terrorists attacked the U.S. Embassy compound in Damascus, Syrian security forces acted immediately and bravely to quell the attack. In a 30-minute fire fight they killed three of the terrorists and wounded one of them. The wounded terrorist was the driver of a car bomb that was intended to damage the Embassy and, undoubtedly, take as many lives as possible; he tried to run from the scene and was shot -- he died some hours later before officials were able to question him. Initial reports indicated that there were two car bombs and one exploded but it turned out that the reported explosion was from a hand grenade thrown by one of the terrorists, possibly killing a Syrian guard.

U.S. Secretary of State Rice praised Syrian security forces for their quick actions as did the President, through his Press Secretary, Tony Snow. It was a rare occasion! It is not often that the U.S. government can find something good to say about Syria. The American Ambassador to Syria, Peter Ford was recalled to Washington about 1-1/2 years ago because of Syria's alleged involvement in the death of Rafiq Hariri, the former Lebanese Prime Minister; and, more recently, Syria, along with Iran, has been supporting, arming and fighting with Hezbollah guerrillas and Palestinian militants in Lebanon and elsewhere.

If American praise of Syria is rare, kind words from Syria about the U.S. are non-existent; yesterday was no exception. In a statement to the press yesterday a Syrian Embassy official at Syria's Washington Embassy said:

"It is regrettable that U.S. policies in the Middle East have fueled extremism, terrorism and anti-U.S. sentiment. The U.S. should start looking at the root causes of terrorism and broker a comprehensive peace in the Middle East."

What you see in that quote is a wonderful insight into the Middle-Eastern mentality. He starts out his statement with a truth and then tries to justify that truth with an irrational conclusion.

The Syrian official's first sentence is undeniably true! The U.S. response to the attacks in September 11, 2001 in Afghanistan, it's later attack on Iraq and it's alliance with Israel have indeed 'fueled extremism, terrorism and anti-U.S. sentiment.' We see proof of that every day. But it is not the U.S. who should start looking at the root causes of terrorism, it is Syria, Iran and all the other supporters of terrorism. They are the ones who need to clean their own houses by reining-in their terrorists.

The truth that the terrorist states refuse to see is: it is terrorism that is the problem, not the U.S. or Israeli response to terrorism. Terrorism is the problem that caused us to go into Afghanistan, the threat of terrorism is the problem that caused us to go into Iraq, and the victimization of Israel by terrorists is the reason we have allied ourselves, militarily, with Israel.

We have looked, extensively, 'at the root cause of terrorism' and have found that cause to be religious fanaticism; unfortunately, there is no way to 'broker a comprehensive peace' with people who believe that the answer to all their problems is the eradication of Western culture.
