Smoke Screened Skin

You have seen the commercials and have read the articles about how smoking can devastate your health and majorly reduce your life expectancy. We all know someone who has said time and again that they were ready to quit, and were planning to. Or perhaps that person is you.
It's easy to put the unseen out of our minds. We don't look in a mirror and see our heart or lungs or any other body part that is famously known for being worn down and damaged by cigarettes. But what if you could see the negative effects that smoking has on your body? What if we could observe damage from the outside? It may make it a lot easier to quit.
Skincare is a great eye opener for any smoker who may think that they are somehow beating the odds. Take a look around at people your age who don't smoke or drink excessively. Does their skin look like yours? Chances are you may be experiencing everything from a slight dullness to premature aging due to your cigarette habit. And skin care research shows that this is a likely story.
Sarah Monzani, a makeup artist for stars such as Madonna, puts it best, "It may be hard, but the best thing you can do for a beautiful, glowing complexion is to stop smoking. Smoking both dehydrates and deprives your skin of oxygen, so you will see real benefits - skin will become smoother and more radiant."
People working in the skin care field, everyone from makeup artists to dermatologists, know all too well how true this statement is. It doesn't really matter what sort of strict skincare routine you may follow, if you are counteracting it all with something as damaging as smoking.
According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a doctor and author of The Perricone Prescription , the effects of smoking on premature aging is more than a little significant. "When we inhale just one cigarette, more than a trillion free radicals are produced in our lungs, which can trigger an inflammatory response that circulates throughout the body.
If these quotes from skin care experts aren't enough to convince you as to just how drastic of an impact smoking can make on your skincare experience, let's get a little grosser and note how the term "smoker's face" was added to the medical dictionary back in 1985. Smoking is a skincare issue that has long been acknowledged. Smoking tends to make the face look older than it actually is, and who wants that? Probably not you!
The description of "smoker's face" is as follows, "Lines or wrinkles on the face, particularly radiating at right angles from the upper and lower lips or corners of the eyes, deep lines on the cheeks or numerous shallow lines on the cheeks and lower jaw. A subtle gauntness of the features, with prominence of the underlying bony contours."
Skin care may not be a familiar thing to you, but most everyone knows that descriptions of "deep lines" and "gauntness" are not on the top 10 list of things that make you look and feel beautiful. And while smoking commercials may not always focus on skincare as a platform to get you to quit, realizing that basic skin care research has proven the facial downfalls of smoking should give you a good motivation.
If you are already seeing the negative reactions to smoking, there are products that you can incorporate into your skincare routine that can help you attempt to reverse the damage. While difficult, it is possible to use skin care technology to soften the impact smoking has had on you.
Consider a skincare item that contains antioxidants, which can battle against the aforementioned free radicals that your face has encountered. There are plenty of skin care products out there that fight fine lines, dull skin, and dark circles, which can be purchased without spending a fortune.
Skin care researchers are continually searching for ways to improve the skin's health, and new advancements are being made all of the time. However, there is one simple skincare rule you can follow in order to protect yourself from the effects of smoking. It's really simple: Don't do it!
