The Silver Lining In The Dark Cloud Pointed To By Secretary-General Kofi Annan: It's His Last Address As UN Leader The Raw Story reports that Annan also said "the misconceptions and stereotypes underlying the idea of a clash of civilization have come to be more and more widely shared, and insensitivity towards other people's beliefs or sacred symbols -- intentional or otherwise -- is seized upon by those who seem eager to forment a new war of religion, this time on a global scale." I am so sick and tired of this man and his dishonesty. A global religious war? Misconceptions, stereotypes, insensitivity? Global disorder and widespread contempt for human rights? To say all that as though it is a problem that we all, as the entire world, contribute to equally is dishonest. An astounding proportion of the current world conflicts are due to certain segments of Islam refusing to keep their barbaric customs to themselves and instead seeking to inflict them on the rest of us, by force. And, yes, genital mutilation, prepubescent marriage of girls to men well into their adulthood, adult and teen women traded like breeding stock, sharia law and its amputations and stonings, honor killing of women and girls for real or imagained sexual or social misconduct or for having the misfortune to be raped or molested, and gender apartheid are all barbaric customs and these are just at the top of the list.
