Sen. Allen Asked To Apoligize For Apology

Virginia Senator George Allen just can’t catch a break! All year his re-election campaign has been marred with controversy of one kind or another. It started back in May when Allen referred to an Indian-American man at one of his campaign stops (who happens to be a volunteer for his opponent’s campaign) as the obscure slur ‘macaca’. Allen later apologized for that saying that he did not know what the word meant. Then later in the year he apologized for blowing up at a reporter after she revealed that he was half Jewish. He answered that charge with a half hearted apology that didn’t go over too well but at least managed to put out fires.

Just a few days ago more charges came up on a supposedly racist past in which college teammates of his came forward and said that he would repeatedly use a common racial slur against black teammates, charges that he vehemently denies. The latest charge though comes from a charge from a few months ago that he hung the confederate flag in his offices which he did admit to but later denounced. That denouncement is what is getting him in trouble though. A group called “Sons of Confederate Veterans” is calling for an apology from Allen for that statement with one member saying “The denunciation of the flag to score political points is anathema to our organization,”
