Segways recalled due to injury risk The Segway has largely fizzled after all the hype that preceded its introduction in 2002, when it was touted as a revolution in consumer products. We were told it would change the way we think of technology, but as it turned out, not so much. The general public's reaction was more like, "say what now?" In 2003 the first Segway recall was issued, and that same year, President Bush fell off of a Segway, prompting much amusement in the media, since supposedly it was impossible to fall off a Segway. Apparently, not so impossible after all. And given the price a Segway still commands ($4000 and up on Amazon), the only consumers it's revolutionizing are the ones in the highly specialized "geeks with too much cash on their hands" market subset.
