Reduced Sentence for Mother who Let Baby Hit Bong

Disturbing as this story is, it underscores the point that even when someone does something terrible, it doesn't mean that the judicial system can do whatever it wants in return. There are rules and procedures to follow.

In this case, a mother let her 18-month-old child inhale from a bong, and was sentenced to a pretty reasonable five years in prison. However, the charge was distribution of marijuana (why not child abuse?), which carries a maximum of two years. The sentenced was reduced by a judge.

I think a lot of people confuse the notions of feeling sorry for criminals and following/making a good law. Commentators will no doubt be angry that this woman got off easy, when it's probably the prosecution's fault for pressing such a minor charge.

Well said. It's amazing that some people would compromise our core principles over a petty case.
