President Musharraf's Interview on CBS Was Armitage right at getting cooperation of the Pakistanis this way. Probably so. Armitage was right in pressurising Pakistan to cooperate with the United States. Pakistan was supporting the renegade regime of Taliban and it was only country that had diplomatic relations with Taliban. Pakistan's notorious intelligence agency called ISI was supporting Osama Bin Laden and Taliban. Richard Armitage was right when he threatened Pakistan. Let us not try to appease that nation by denying the statements of Richard Armitage. Now an overview of how Pakistan became the haven for terrorists: Saudis and other Middleeastern countries were trying to appease Islamic extremists in their own country. So they wanted a neutral place which will accept these extremists. They had laid out a list of criteria that met their requirements. The requirements were (1) the country must be muslim nation and very poor, (2) the country must have young population, (3) the young must be intelligent, and Pakistan fit that criteria. The other Asian nations such as Malaysia and Indonesia and others did not meet these requirements. What the Saudis and others found in Pakistan was that it had millions of angry, young and poor muslims who were intelligent and were looking for action. The neighbour of Pakistan , India had full fledged democracy and freedom to decide the political leadership and many young Pakistanis were jealous of freedom and democracy enjoyed by the Indians. This is because most Pakistanis originally came from India. The Pakistani political leadership is responsible for the poverty and Islamic extremism in that country. Adding fuel to the fire Saudis come in, they funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to Pakistan for building Mosques and Madrassas . Madrassa are leaning centers for Quran and teachings of extremists idelaogy. They churn out hundreds of thousands of Islamic warriors. The Saudi money also feeds into Pakistani nuclear ambitions . Pakistan detonates the first Islamic atom bomb with stolen technology by A.Q.Khan and this makes the Islamic World very proud. A.Q. Khan and his group of thugs supported by Pakistani regime starts exporting nuclear technology to North Korea and Iran. The Chinese were helping Pakistan with technology to develop nuclear weapons. Without Chinese help Pakistan will not be a nuclear power In the background of all this, the United States was supporting everything Pakistan was doing. The United States was strong ally of Pakistan since it got its independence. This inspite of the fact that Pakistan was a dictatorship, it was a haven for Islamic fundamentalists and it had strong nuclear ambition and it was being helped by China. The American public which is more involved in beer, brautwurst and ball game paid no attention to what the politicians in their own country were doing In essence Pakistan is a failed State but what helped the country from becoming a Afghanistan was that it had the backing of Saudi and US money which kept it afloat with the help of Pakistani military. 9/11 changed all of it. President Bush who did not understand the complexities of global politics had a simple message "you are either with us or you are with the terorists". It is important that Pakistan understood the message loud and clear. Blogger News Network is advertiser-supported, and your visits to our advertisers help BNN to meet its expenses.
