The Pope vs Islam

With remarks that will only widen the divide between Muslims and Christians, Pope Benedict XVI has branded Islam as “evil and inhuman” as its followers spread the religion “by the sword.”

If I interpret world history correctly, weren’t the Crusades a way of spreading Catholicism through parts of the Middle-East “by the sword?”

Apology or not, the Pope’s words will only further incite the Islamic fundamentalist’s “us-against-the-world” attitude, resulting in louder cries for Jihad.

You interpret history correctly, and that's what it is, history, ancient history. From what I've seen of 21st century Islam [the century 'we' live in], I could incur a fatwah simply by asking directions to Mecca, the insult being that I didn't know how to get there.
