Partying Priests a-Plenty That is what makes it far more serious when we read of Catholic priests accused of stealing tithes and using the money given for the works of God to instead finance vacation homes, girlfriends, gambling, and other non-God related activities. This affects not only the people in that particular congregation but also the entire Catholic church, fairly or unfairly, is painted with that brush. Even sadder, the same taint attaches to other religions. Non-believers take things such as this and point to all religions and add it to the growing list of failures of religion. It is important to note these were not the actions of God but rather of people outwardly claiming to serve God. In no way, shape or form should the misdeeds of people attach a message that their actions contradict. Nowhere does the Bible justify theft or lies. Far from it. And while it is definitely sad that the homeless people of Florida have not received the benefits of money donated to help them, that millions of people unrelated to these two priests will be adversely affected, the greatest and deepest tragedy is that millions of people will look at these misdeeds and use it as an excuse to turn their backs on God.
