The Organism Responds...Again

by Ric Ottaiano
Septmenber 19, 2006

The swarming of the mindless drones has been provoked again. Driven by ignorance, fear, bigotry and self-loathing they have taken to the streets in large numbers to spew accusations and calumny against any who dare raise a voice of reason and thoughtfulness. Against any who call for self-reflection and moderation. Against any not like themselves. Against the Pope.

This is the state of Islam today, no different than the state of Islam over the past centuries. The historical record is clear and replete with the necessary examples. Islam rumbled out of the desert of the Arabian peninsula to forcibly overrun the north of Africa, Spain and the Holy Land. These are cold, hard, indisputable…although inconvenient…facts. These are some of the historical examples of conversion by the sword to which Pope Benedict referred and which, in the greatest of ironies, has provoked the thoughtless organism which is most of vocal Islam into statements such as: “You will only see our swords until you go back to God’s true faith Islam.”

Or statements like: “We call on all Islamic communities across the world to take revenge on the baseless critic called the Pope.”

But there is no compulsion in religion, no calls to violence in religion, the organism repeats over and over as if repetition can ultimately equal truth and cover with a fabric of lies the eyes of the beholder.

Pope Benedict’s remarks were part of a larger discussion on the role of reason in faith. The discussion that God is not disengaged from reason but instead calls on mankind to use that precious faculty to better understand His word. That we are to use our minds to better understand our faith and the words of God rather than a rote memorization without any effort to divine a deeper, often more subtle and transcendant meaning.

But that calls for a conscious effort and not the simple involuntary muscular response of a vast, interconnected but, in the final analysis, unthinking religious and cultural organism that Islam now is and likely always has been. The Pope has said before that Christianity requires the never-ending search for God’s truth which begins with the reading of His words as understood and interpolated by mortal men. There is no room for such reflection is Islam inasmuch as Mohammed is revered not so much as the engine of Allah but more as his oracle, provided with the duty of repeating his words verbatim for reduction to posterity.

Therefore there is no need for the organism to think and reflect on meaning or subtlety when there is nothing left for interpretation or thought…in other words, there is nothing left for REASON.
