Move over, Hatfields & McCoys: its the Shands v Noes It would be nice to think that by their 60s people would have a better way to solve their problems than shooting each other at Little League games. Now we have 3 dead people and that is a very poor solution. Growing up there was a family next door that had some feuding going on. The mother had an ex-husband, an on again/off again live-in boyfriend, and an affair going on with the guy living across the street. The police made regular appearances when any two of them had a confrontation. The ineffectiveness of having them show up, talk things down, then leave was shown by the repeated need to have police intervention. Finally the fathers of the neighborhood banded together and went to visit each of the people involved and let them know in no uncertain terms that this behavior was going to stop, that we were going to have a safe, decent place for the children to grow up. It did, indeed, put an end to the shenanigans. Nobody had to be killed over it because the community stepped in. If we in the U.S. could become more involved in stopping feuds before they got out of hand we would have less shootings and more peace. It is tragic someone could not do that for the Shands and Noes.
