Minorities to get more employment opportunities in advertising agencies Advertising agencies in New York, which avoided recruiting minorities especially blacks till now, have started to provide employment opportunities to minorities in New York. Sixteen Ad agencies have now promised to recruit minorities from New York, to work for them. This promise comes just before a series of public hearings scheduled today, where the management of advertising companies were expected to explain their stance for not recruiting minorities. But these hearings at the industry’s Annual Advertising week were cancelled after the diversity agreements were announced recently. About 3% of the total advertising staffers in United States as on 2005 were blacks, with Asians accounting for 1.5% and Latinos accounting for 7.5%, according to a data released by U.S Bureau of Labor. The advertising agencies were facing a lot of pressure from the Human Right Commissions on not adopting a similar standard followed by other industries in New York for providing employment opportunities to minorities. Giant advertising agencies like WPP Group PLC's Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis Groupe SA 's Saatchi & Saatchi and Draft New York, part of Interpublic Group of Cos.
