Master Food's( MARS) Silent but clever Strategy to be the pet food leader Mars is a clever and very innovative company. They realized that growing organically is good but not enough. They feel it is faster to grow through acquisition which they have learnt it in the last 5 years when major aquisitions took place in the pet food arena. One Pet food company due to its huge size believes no one can come close to it. But beware of Mars. They have a strong management , creative and innovative group of people who are determined to succeed and nothing can stop them. Mars pays well and they know talents can be acquired from anywhere for a price. Mars is likely to ramp up the production of its best selling cat treat called Temptations which is nutritionally balanced and complete. This product is very good and Mars has done an excellent job of making a great product. What they need to do now is to market this product with big bang. Temptations is not only the best tasting cat treat but also the best tasting cat food in the market. They should sell this product like a main meal for cats. They should put the banner/ advertise very heavily to promote this cat food/ cat treat. Once the volume picks up they will be able to bring the manufacturing costs down. This way they can hit their competitor very hard in the US market. Mars Pedigree dog food is a good product they should introduce the pillow type kibble in the dog food. Mars is also closing their R & D facility in Vernon, California and planning to move people to Brentwood, TN. Coming to Midwest reduces costs and also helps the company to acquire key talents from the competition.
