Israel and Hamas Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. They refuse to accept duly constituted agreements made by prior administrations. For Hamas, simply saying "We aren't bound by that" is enough...there is no need to follow proper legal procedure. Essentially, Hamas is a rogue state. The news that they might, under the under the umbrella of a combined government, offer recognition to Israel is huge. That they might agree to uphold past agreements and foreswear violence as well means that, if both sides truly abide by the agreements and ceasefires, including a cessation of rocket attacks, tank attacks, etc., give real hope for the first time in decades of a true peace and possible resolution to a situation that has plagued the Middle Eats for over a century.
