Irwin Memorial Tickets Bring Out Thousands Over 3000 fans of the late Steve Irwin, many of whom camped outside overnight to be some of the first in line, received tickets to next week's public memorial service for the Crocodile Hunter. The free tickets were distributed at three locations, and they were all gone within 15 minutes. Melissa Power, 34, was at the front of the line in the state capital and was overwhelmed with emotion when she received her ticket. “It's unbelievable,” she said. “I haven't slept and am so overemotional – I'm looking so forward to it.” Out of the thousands that lined up outside, many who did not receive tickets burst into hysterical tears at the knowledge that they would not be allowed into Wednesday's memorial service inside the Australia Zoo's ampitheatre. The service is to be a “celebration of his life, not a sad funeral,” his father, Bob, told reporters last week. Though Australia offered much larger venues to the Irwin family, Steve's widow Terri remained firm in the fact that Steve would have wanted to be remembered at the very same place where he spent so much of his life and is now buried.
