In Honor of Lt. Ronald Kerwin, 9-11-06 I enlisted in this project to honor a 9-11 victim. it was one of those things that I have always believed bloggers should participate in: creating global community and aiding and honoring worthy causes. I did not know at the time that this project would have such profound impact on me. I did not recieve information on Lt. Kerwin until last week. I looked into the smiling face of a man, younger than myself, who had already devoted more than twenty years to ensuring the safety of fellow Americans when he was lost to his family, his profession, his community and his nation on September 11, 2001. I did not know Lt. Kerwin personally, but I know the kind of man he was. I ran alongside of him in during military training; I have looked up into his his kind face when I was the victim of a terrible accident; and, as an employee assistance professional for Police and Firefighters, I counseled him when tragedy was too much for one heart to bear. Today, 2,996 Bloggers are each honoring a single victim of 9-11. I pray you do not forget this man, others like him nor the 2,995 other victims: Lt. Ronald T. Kerwin Jurisdiction: Queens Rank: Lieutenant Agency: FDNY Unit: Squad 288 Funeral Information: Laid to Rest December 10, 2001 The best way to know someone is via the words of those whose lives he touched. Lt. Ronald Kerwin: Ron and I attended basic emergency medical technician training in the 1987- 1988 time frame. We were both members of the Levittown Fire Department. I remember Ron as an outgoing, caring person. I knew he was going to do well in his career as a firefighter, it seemed to be in his blood. He achieved great success in the fire service as a lieutenant for the New York Fire Department and as a chief in the Levittown Fire Department. I feel we use the term hero too loosely but what people like Ron did was truely heroic and deserving of such accolades. I wish his loved ones (he) left behind well and want them to know that Ron has impacted my life. God rest his soul and all the victims of 11 September, 2001. Lloyd "Tweed" Cafran, friend Ron was my Company Captain and my Department Chief. He was truly a firefighter's firefighter who knew his job. His number one concern was the safety of the firefighter and he was respected by all who knew him. We will surely miss his dedication, courage, wisdom and humor. Rest in peace. Tom and Jane Cuff (Levittown, NY ) He was a wonderful husband. He was my best friend. Diane Kerwin, wife Chief Kerwin was survived by his wife Diane and three children Ryan; Keith and Colleen. At the time they were aged 12. 9 and 6.
