Hungarian Prime Minister Vacating Premises, But Not Position

Voice Of America reports that "Hungary's prime minister says he will close his Socialist party's communist-era headquarters, the focus of often-violent protests this week."

He is still, however, holding on to his position, despite "an estimated 30,000-40,000 demonstrators calling for Gyurcsany’s resignation had gathered by 2100 (1900 GMT) outside the huge neo-Gothic parliament, where protests have been held for the past week," according to an MSNBC.com report.

Fortunately, this large gathering has not suffered from the violence and mayhem of the earlier protests.

As reported by the BBC, "the crisis began a week ago when a leaked tape-recording revealed Mr Gyurcsany admitting to lying to win re-election for his socialist-liberal coalition government earlier this year."
