House Approves New Fencing Along US-Mexico Border For the second time in a year’s time, the US House has voted on a measure to erect a wall on the US-Mexico border. The wall is part of a Republican plan to keep illegal immigrants to a minimum within the country. Currently 75 of the 2,000 mile border are fenced. The proposal passed through the house with a 283-138 vote and paves the way for 700 miles of new double layered fencing to be erected along the border. The bill does not pay for the fence however (estimated to cost $2 billion by Republicans and $7 billion by Democrats), funding will be decided by a later spending bill.
