Great News New Yorkers! New York City Named Safest Big City Dallas, Texas was the large city with the highest crime rate, with one crime for about every 12 people. As far as safe large cities go, San Jose came in at no. 2 on the list, followed by Los Angeles at no. 3 with one crime for every 26 people. Rounding out the top 5 are San Diego at no. 4, and Chicaho at no. 5. It's safe to say that big cities are becoming safer each year.
