Fla. Rep. Foley sent sexually explicit IMs to teens

This story is more than a little disturbing. Apparently Florida Rep. Mark Foley, who had pushed for tougher laws against online sexual predators, fell into the habit of hassling "congressional pages," high school students, on the Internet himself.

Obviously, this man deserves whatever he gets -- at this point, he's resigned his job and may (and should) face prosecution. I do hesitate, however, to see his actions as somehow worse because of his previous crusade against predation. Hypocrisy is an odd accusation, as it implies anyone who does something wrong must, for all eternity, support others in making the same mistake.

So, I'll be staying away from "hypocritical pervert," and sticking to just plain "pervert." His previous support for tough-on-crime measures is still commendable, and his recent actions would be no more forgivable had that support not existed.
