Dwarf Planet Named Eris The new planet discovered in our solar system that was the primary cause of Pluto being demoted to ‘dwarf planet’ status has been named Eris. This is not the first time this planet has been renamed as when it was originally discovered it had the scientific title ‘2003 UB313’, then it was nicknamed Xena after the television character and finally it has been given the official name Eris, one of the Greek goddesses that played a primary role in the start of the Trojan War. Nicknamed world 'Xena' to be known as Eris (CTV.ca)
