Deadly strain of Tuberculosis threaten U.S

A newly identified strain of tuberculosis, which caused havoc in South Africa, has started to gain ground in Unites States, forcing public health officials to issue warnings on the possible widespread infections of this strain. This new ‘multi-drug resistant’ T.B strain is responsible for a number of deaths in South Africa, recently. Health officials in U.S are more worried about visitors from other countries, who could bring this deadly T.B strain in to U.S.

People infected with this new strain might get temporary relief after taking medicines, but they may not be able to recover from this infection as this strain is resistant to all first line and a few second line drugs. This new strain is easily transmitted through the air and it also shows resistance to drugs.

Although the number of TB cases reported in U.S is much less when compared to the developing nations, health officials have warned that this disease could spread across the country in epidemic proportions, if steps are not initiated to control the outbreak.
