Comics Become High Art - Should We Rejoice Well, this might mean a promotion to the higher echelons of "Art". But what happens to the ignorants like me, who have often stood confounded in front of artistic expressions of emotions n canvass, unable to make head or tail out of them? Are we on the way of losing our beloved comics, our very own anti - depressants, to the pristine realms of high art? What if we stopped laughing when we read comics from now on and instead only shook our heads with a sombre expression or simply stared at them in appreciation!High art comics - will they still be funny? It has already been pointed out that it is the most exclusionary among all modern art forms, completely excluding protrayal of the feminine gender, except with sexual overtones or with undercurrents of negativity. Well, I am all for right to equality of sexes. But let our beloved comics not become too serious about several rights like these. May the desperation to conform to the needs of political correctness in the realm of high art not rob it of its funny side. Otherwise, may be some of us raise the slogan of the right to laugh and be merry above everything else.
