Chomsky and Chavez: No Need to Equate Them

Naom Chomsky is a retired Professor of linguistics, who had long been critical of American foreign and economic policies. it is not as if he had any particular agenda to advocate Chavez or his policies. It was Chavez who made reference to Chomsky's "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominanceā€ in a platform like UN to argue his case against perceived American excesses.

So, it is gross travesty of justice and also quite illogical to demonise Chomsky as a symptom of patriotic American reaction to Chavez's calling the president "devil". Chomsky and Chavez are not partners in "crime" - there is no need to equate them.

Wrong -- chomsky didn't distance himself from Chavez's anti-democratic tendencies, such as his abuse of the referendum lists, and violence against demonstrators. Instead he seemed pleased and said Chavez had constructive things to say.

Sounds like a partnership to me.

Any sane person knows they're not "partners". Anyone suggesting that is just doing the usual ad hominem, right-wing reactionary dance, and it's not worth paying the least bit attention to. oh and we must accept that Chavez is "evil" because he's not bowing to US foreign policy. Anyway, Chomsky would be the first to tell you that you can't trust anyone in power, even though Chavez is more popular in his country than Bush is here.
